Supporting Malaysia’s Forest Conservation with New Financial Mechanisms

Introducing the Forest Conservation Certificate (FCC) and Forest Carbon Offset (FCO) for Sustainable Environmental Care
Layang Kaji's Role in Promoting Sustainable Forestry under the FCC Initiative
In May 2024, Malaysia launched new mechanisms to fund forest conservation, marking a significant step toward sustainable environmental care. These initiatives, led by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, include the Forest Conservation Certificate (FCC) and Forest Carbon Offset (FCO). The FCC provides a non-market-based approach to support small-scale forest conservation efforts, while the FCO introduces a market-based solution to generate carbon credits in alignment with global standards.
Layang Kaji Sdn Bhd is proud to be part of this government initiative. Our commitment to sustainable forestry practices, as seen through our compliance with the Malaysian Criteria and Indicators (MC&I) for sustainable forest management, aligns perfectly with these new conservation financing mechanisms. By working hand-in-hand with government agencies and local communities, we aim to promote forest sustainability and contribute to Malaysia’s long-term environmental goals.
The FCC, targeted at smaller forest areas, supports forest restoration and conservation without generating carbon credits. On the other hand, the FCO allows for larger areas to generate revenue through the sale of carbon credits, which can be traded internationally. This will also boost corporate compliance with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards, providing industries with a pathway to contribute meaningfully to forest conservation.
Layang Kaji is dedicated to utilizing these mechanisms to finance and expand its conservation activities, particularly in reforestation and forest health monitoring. By using advanced technology, including GIS and LiDAR, we ensure accurate monitoring and management of our forest concessions, minimizing deforestation and promoting ecological balance. The FCC and FCO align with our long-standing mission to maintain the delicate equilibrium between forest management, corporate growth, and environmental stewardship.
This bold initiative, as recognized by leading publications such as The Edge Malaysia, The Sun Daily, Malay Mail, Selangor Journal, and KLSE Screener, positions Malaysia as a global leader in sustainable forestry. As the government works to address climate change, Layang Kaji continues to play a key role in the nation’s efforts to protect its invaluable forest resources.
